Welcome to the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Union Free School District, located 30 miles north of New York City in the suburban Westchester Community of Hawthorne. The campus is owned and operated by the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services and provides a safe and therapeutic residential option for students in crisis.

Working in collaboration with the residential program, the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Union Free School District provides the educational component for both residential students and day students placed by their local Committees on Special Education. All students work on improving their social/emotional functioning and academic skills. The residential population is also placed by CSEs as well as Department of Social Services and Office of Mental Health.

Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Union Free School District is a Special Act School District. This means that it is a public school district and follows all the part 100 and 200 Commissioners Regulations for provision of academic and special education services. All teachers are highly qualified and state testing follows all of the procedures found in a typical district.

Classified students follow a program mandated by their Individualized Educational Plan. Highly qualified and certified school psychologists, social workers, vocational and guidance counselors, and speech therapists all provide related services.

High School diplomas are granted by Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Union Free School District and graduates go on to employment, military service or college.
